Food and Exercise Programs

All of our programs are free of charge and open to everyone in the community. If you have issues accessing these programs such as transportation, physical or language barriers, please let our program staff know and we will work with you to eliminate this barrier. Building Balance

This 7-week program is an exercise-based fall prevention program focussed on reducing the incidence of falls and injury/hospitalization for people who are fearful of falling or who are having issues with falls. Balance and strengthening exercises and education on modifiable fall risk factors will be discussed. *Referrals to the program can be made through your health care provider. Occasional self-referrals are accepted.

Craving Change

This 4-week program is for people struggling with emotional eating. The program addresses why we eat the way we do, without a focus on what, when, where, or how much to eat and encourages behaviour change through awareness of personal eating triggers.

Exercise Maintenance Program

Clients are encouraged to join the fitness group that meets twice a week for cardio and resistance training. *Participants with no exercise experience are encouraged to register for Fitness for Health first.

Would you like to learn how to cook, or do you like cooking?  This program combines fun, hands-on cooking and exercise sessions to help you be the healthiest you can be. Participants will cook and share a meal together and make new connections in the community. Healthy lifestyle changes, easy-to-understand nutrition information and healthy recipes will be shared.

FoodFit Alumni Session

Have you completed our 12-week FoodFit program? If so, please join us for our informal monthly alumni sessions! We meet once per month to share meal prep ideas, recipes and listen to guest speakers, whenever possible. Healthy snacks and drinks are also available at no cost.

Grocery Store Visits/ Nutrition Talks

Our Registered Dietitian can meet you at our centre, your office or the grocery store to provide nutrition education. Common topics include: weight management, chronic disease management, digestive problems, prenatal nutrition, etc.

Heart Healthy Eating

Join our Registered Dietitians for an education session on eating well for your heart. Learn how to identify nutritious foods, create balanced meals, and tips and tricks to live a healthy lifestyle.

Nordic Pole Walking

Interested in trying pole walking? Come walk with peer instructors through forest trails and along the Ontario Parks beach. Poles are provided by the SGBCHC and everyone is welcome to join, from leisurely to fast walkers!
